Vocabulary Strategies to Use in Your Classroom
Using Realia, Photos, and Illustrations to Introduce Vocabulary-
When previewing vocabulary words to students, it is useful to provide a hands-on approach or three-dimensional objects to enhance vocabulary words. Find Your Match-
This game is useful for vocabulary review and can be used in various ways. To play this game, students will be in groups of three or four and will receive a set of cards with vocabulary words and definitions. The objective of the game is for students to match the correct vocabulary word with the definition. For differentiation purposes, examples of a concept can be used instead of definitions.

Four Corners Vocabulary-
Four corners is an activity used to contextualize vocabulary words by creating a chart with four quadrants. It can be used to introduce new vocabulary or to review or reinforce known vocabulary. Students will complete a chart with four quadrants: the vocabulary word, a definition of the vocabulary word, a sentence that properly uses the word in context, and a drawing that represents the vocabulary word.

Vocabulary flip books are a great resource for students to use in order to increase comprehension of key concepts and ideas during the course of a unit. Using 8.5"x11" pieces of paper, teachers and students can fold each piece of paper to create a booklet with vocabulary definitions, examples, and pictures/diagrams to aid in comprehension of the lesson/unit.

Students are asked to fill out the Bingo card with a different vocabulary words in each space. The teacher will read aloud the definition of the word and students will place a Bingo chip on top of the correct vocabulary word. The first student to get Bingo wins!
